Lack of sleep can cause a weakened immune system, a pre-diabetic state, impaired memory, depression, heart disease, constipation, stomach ulcers, and more. Chronic insomnia can make a person 3x greater at risk of dying from any cause. SCARY!!!!
We both have issues with sleep. Katie especially has had huge issues with family members being on and coming off heavy prescription medicine for sleep (i.e. Ambien). With her family being completely off prescription sleep meds, she has done the research and found a few great natural tips, vitamins, and herbs that have worked for her and her family that we want to share with you!
TIPS:
* Keep your room dark! (when you're room is dark, your body can start producing melatonin and serotonin, the sleep hormones!)
* Keep your room cool! (no higher than 70 degrees F for optimum comfort!)
* Avoid electronics one or two hours before bedtime (start to unwind from stress! work and social media can wait till tomorrow!)
* Get a routine
* Go to bed before 11pm
* Take a hot bath or shower before bed (signals your body it's time for bed with the temperature drop)
* Avoid before bed snacks (raises blood sugar and interferes with sleep, if you're hungry opt for a little bit of fruit)

This bottle looks like it should have a wolf howling in the background, anyone else see that?! Though it’s the size of horse pill, and did we mention, stinky like a nasty gym sock, it really WORKS!!! Thanks to Katy’s friend Michael, the Katie(y)’s now have this power house herbal supplement keeping them from nasty germs! Katy’s friend Micahel took one of these pills, once a day, and he NEVER got sick all year! He’s sold on it, so are we and so are many other people! Check the reviews! Both of us can tend to get sick easily and since we’ve been daily taking a Wellness Formula® tablet we are feeling spry, people!!! We actually notice if we miss a day too becuase we feel more sluggish, etc.

RECIPE: TOOTIES (Black Bean Brownies)
“They Say…” Black beans are high in antioxidants, high in fiber, stabilize blood sugar, fight cancer, lower risk of heart attack, a good source of magnesium, polyphenols (keep arteries clear), protein, and iron! Katie personally has a hard time with their texture but these sweet treats make black beans her new favorite treat!
This delicious dessert is our new favorite, seriously! Katie first found this recipe on AllRecipes.com and has revised it to be healthier by adding coconut oil instead of vegetable oil which the recipe called for! Also added more cocoa and vanilla! If anyone has any suggestions of what we could add to make it even healthier please post a comment.

RECIPE: TOOTIES (Black Bean Brownies)
Ingredients
1 (15.5 ounce) can organic black beans, rinsed and drained
3 organic brown eggs
3 tablespoons organic coconut oil
1/3 cup organic cocoa powder
1 pinch salt
1/2 tbsp organic vanilla extract (could substitute coconut crystals or maybe agave nectar!)
3/4 cup organic sugar
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips to sprinkle across the top (we use organic, dairy free, gluten free)
***you can taste your batter as you go and add more of what you think it needs!
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8x8 square baking dish.
2. Combine the black beans, eggs, coconut oil, cocoa powder, salt, vanilla extract, sugar, in a blender; blend until smooth; pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top of the mixture.
3. Bake in the preheated oven until the top is dry and the edges start to pull away from the sides of the pan, about 30 minutes.
4.Allow Tooties to cool, slice and eat! Make sure to cover with saran wrap or Ziploc bag any left, so they don’t dry out! You can bring them to work with you for a nice dessert at lunch!
These are really yummy and GLUTEN FREE! Just don't say they're brownies, or that they are made of beans, just call them Tootie bars and they won't have a clue! :) Katie gave these to a couple guys and they had no idea they were eating beans!

Welcome to our Blog! :)
This is our first post and we are VERY excited to start our new blog “They Say…”
Come join us in our sometimes interesting, sometimes amusing adventure as we dig into what it means to live in a natural and holistic way! Join us as we learn and experiment! This is going to be fun!
We have been co-workers for the past couple years and our friendship has continued to grow as we both found a mutual interest in health and well being! Being fellow sweet tooth’s (Katy’s boyfriend is Häagen and Katie’s is Dazs!) and bonding over the fact that taking the stairs at work was practically giving both of us asthma (haha! Seriously…), we found that working as a team was helping us get on the right and healthy track!:) And yes our names are both Katie(y).
Why did we start this blog?
So, both of us also have recently dug into our research about what’s the best nutrition and natural remedies out there and we’re still learning together! It started with both of us were always coming over to each other’s office or cubicle sharing the new “thing” we were learning. Many times our conversation included, “They say…” followed by something like, “that coconut water has twice the amount of potassium as banana!” We both have different health issues, along with getting sick often so we both got fed up and decided to get healthy! Many of the natural remedies we discovered actually worked!!! So that’s where we get the name of our blog and that's why we wanted to share our experience with the you!
What is this blog about?
This blog is an outlet for us to share what we find about living healthy and natural! We’ll tell you what really works and what’s a waste of money in our opinion! So read our blog and join us as we tell you what great info, products and tips we find! You may find a few funny videos of us as well of us trying out exercises, crazy detox drinks, recipes and more!
